After much research by my family, we have been able to trace our origins back six generations to a John Guthrie of Scottish descent who emigrated from Ireland abt. 1771. It is documented that his son, James Guthrie, my great-great-great grandfather, purchased land for a farm in Pennsylvania from heirs of William Penn. One day I hope to connect the information we have obtained to the generations before, as I understand that the Guthrie name dates back to 1299 and includes encounters with the likes of Sir William Wallace and Oliver Cromwell. A fasinating history of the Scottish origins can be found online here-
I have used the Guthrie tartan, the design of which was exclusive to each clan, for the page background. The family coat of arms is pictured at the upper right, while the family crest is pictured lower right. The motto, "Sto Pro Veritate", translates to "I Stand For Truth". An excellent explanation of heraldry and the various components of a coat of arms can be found here-
One of the pleasures I derive from my work is helping to preserve a part of your family history. This is one way I preserve mine.
